Esta producción estrenada en Brodway en 1957 cuenta la historia de María y Tony dos jóvenes que viven su romance al mismo tiempo que se encuentran atrapados entre la rivalidad de dos bandas juveniles de diferentes etnias: los Jets (de raíces europeas) y los Sharks (de origen puertorriqueño).

Basada en el libro de William Shakespeare, Romeo y Julieta esta obra cuenta con dos premios Tony y cuatro nominaciones a estos.
